Lake Nipissing is renowned for its world-class fishing, and Glen Echo Cottages puts you in the heart of the action. Our location on the south shore, near the mouth of Callander Bay, means you can fish in almost any weather – the bay and channels offer protection on windy days, and you’re minutes from open water when the lake is calm. The variety of sport fish here is impressive. Walleye (pickerel) are the star attraction – and we’re right next to one of their major spawning grounds, so the walleye fishing is outstanding in spring and fall.
You’ll also find Smallmouth Bass in abundance (Lake Nipissing has one of the most underrated smallmouth fisheries in Ontario), Northern Pike are plentiful and always ready to strike, and Muskie prowl these waters too – every year, trophy muskies in the 25–30 lb range are caught in Callander Bay. If you’re planning a family trip with little ones or just want non-stop fun, the countless perch and panfish will keep the kids smiling and rods bending all day long.
At Glen Echo, we’re serious about fishing – and it shows in everything we offer. We truly believe that a great fishing experience starts with a quality boat and gear, so we’ve assembled the best fleet of fishing boats on Lake Nipissing for our guests. Every rental boat is a dependable 16-foot Lund, outfitted with electric-start Mercury 4-stroke motors, fishfinders, livewells, swivel seats, and all safety equipment.
Our standard Lund fleet comes with 25HP motors, and for those who want to upgrade, we offer fully equipped bass boats with 50HP motors, as well as extra-wide Crestliner boats for added comfort. In total, we have 21 boats to choose from, so you can tailor your fishing experience to your style. Bringing your own boat? No problem – we have a convenient launch ramp on-site and over 350 feet of dock space (no fears of shallow water). Docking space is ample, and we’ll make sure you get tied up securely (dockage is available for a small fee).
We also know that local knowledge is key to a successful fishing trip. For our first-time guests, we’re happy to point out the hot spots on a hydrographic map and even give you a quick tour of the fishing areas to get you started. Our staff and owners are passionate anglers who love to share tips on what’s biting and which lures are working best. Plus, our on-site fish cleaning building makes it easy to clean your catch, and we’ll dispose of the waste properly – you just worry about how you’ll cook your delicious fresh fish dinner! We have bait and tackle for sale at our resort store, so you can stock up on minnows, worms, or that new lure you’ve been wanting to try. And remember to get your Ontario fishing license (available online at huntandfishontario.com) – if you need help, we’re happy to assist.
