Pileated Woodpecker

Scott took this photo of one of the many Pileated woodpeckers we have around our property. It’s unbelievable how destructive these birds can be. We have a couple of trees, which looked healthy, that now have holes drilled almost through their entire trunk. I’ve been told that the Pileated woodpecker will only peck trees with some type of bug infestation.  One of our guests looked up Pileated woodpecker and discovered that their tongue actually wraps around their brain to protect it. (Who new)?!
